THE STORY BEHIND SNAP
Snap Fashion is a multi-award winning visual search engine and e-commerce platform that allows consumers to search for womens’ clothes and shoes using images instead of words.
Snap Fashion believe that shopping for fashion is much more fun and efficient if it’s done visually. The concept is to continue developing visual search services for online shopping, making it easier to find the fashion you see and like, as well compare similar items from differnent online retailers.
The company was founded in 2011 and launched it’s first product, the Snap Fashion app and website, in September 2012.
The visual search technology was invented by Snap Fashion founder, Jenny Griffiths, who developed the concept and wrote the algorithms while studying for her Masters degree in Computer science.
In 2013, Jenny recently won the category for Creative Entrepreneur in the 2013 h100 Awards, and was an Entrepreneur of the Year finalist at The Women of the Furutre Awards. She has also won a number of awards and acknowledgements for Snap’s technology, including the Cisco BIG Awards and Decoded Fashion in 2012.
WHAT IS SNAP?
Snap Fashion uses computer vision technology to find similar items of clothing to those in a photograph, whether it’s been taken on a phone or found online.
Snap’s technology can be accessed on the website or iPhone app, and thers is an Android app scheduled for release in early 2014.
With a vast network of over 150 major retailors and e-tailers, Snap finds results based on the cut, colour and texture of a photographed item. The unique algorithms enable it to sort through a database of hundreds of thousands of products, finding a range of similar items in seconds.
Snap ColourPop is the second iPhone app to be released by Snap Fashion, which offers a simplified visual search service based exclusively on colour. It can be accessed via the free ColourPop app or in the Browse section of Snap Fashion’s website.
The app allows users to take a photo of any colour they wish to search for, and immediately discover all the clothes and shoes in that exact shade. Results are drawn from Snap Fashion’s network of retailers and can be refined by different categories of clothing, including dresses, trousers, tops, shorts, skirts, and shoes.
